COERCION

BY CHRISTIAN ELLIOTT, NEAL JOHNSON

(UNITED STATES)

Sadly, this is a true story representing the plight of many women and children in the world today. This film was written and directed by people fighting against human trafficking and exploitation.

This story is based on a young woman trafficked in a shipping container destined for the sex trade. Everything that is depicted here is close to reality apart from the fact that the truth is far more violent and horrific, making it almost impossible to watch if we didn't tone it down. Therefore, this is a more general palatable version to make people aware of that reality.

MAKE AMERICA LOVE AGAIN.jpg

MAKE AMERICA LOVE AGAIN
BY TONE DAVIES, THE WOOLFMAN
(UNITED KINGDOM)

Make America Love Again is a new American Anthem

– a song of healing and unity.

This is the story of The Woolfman - a British songwriter/producer - inspired by the words of the American film maker Spike Lee. Both are driven by the wish to "Heal the Soul of America”. In 2018 The Woolfman saw Spike Lee on BBC TV saying, “We only have to make America  Love again…”. This sentiment reminded him that what happens in America affects us in the UK, in Europe, in Africa, Asia and the whole of the world. That same night - a tune came to him , a tune rooted in gospel music, the music of struggle and of hope. The lyrics emerged all at once, as if from outside himself and a new American Anthem was born.

OIL ON THEIR HANDS
BY JAYE RENOLD
(UNITED STATES)

For almost half a century, the Quechua, Achuar, and Kichwa Indigenous peoples of Northern Peru have suffered extreme negative environmental, health, cultural, social, and economic impacts as a result of the operations by oil companies, Occidental Petroleum and Pluspetrol.

Their pipelines in the Peruvian Amazon have collapsed and degraded, leaking oil and heavy metals into the land. Communities are now not only fighting to protect the earth but also their health as hundreds are sick from contaminated water and food.

In 2020, Indigenous leaders take their complaint to the Netherlands, where PlusPetrol transferred its headquarters in 2000. Research into its corporate structure suggests it did so to support its broader effort to avoid paying taxes in the countries where it operates.

PERCEPTION
BY HARRISON CHANDLER
(UNITED STATES)

A beautiful and uplifting story about generational racism in America, Perception follows the life of a single mother Anna Curtis, and her young daughter Jessica Curtis as they transition from a world filled with oppression and prejudice to one overflowed with cultural diversity. Although Anna's beliefs are a direct result of systemic racism that she witnessed as a minor, her daughter's decision and perspective later allow her to see just how flawed her perception truly is. Based on true events, this inspiring and breathtaking drama beautifully showcases how in a world filled with hate, we can always choose love.
